The Pineal Gland

The pineal gland is a pine-cone gland, a member of the endocrine system. It projects from the back of the brain stem. It is charged with amplifying the thought frequencies. The pineal gland activates certain parts of the brain to receive the different frequencies of thought. What is noteworthy is: the higher frequency of thoughts, the the more brain opens. This is the spiral hat begins the awakening of our divinity. Thus Lynn Grabhorn in “Beyond the Twelve Steps” encourages us to work on our consciousness.

I accidentally came across videos working on the pineal gland found on YouTube. The bonus is that the pineal gland may be cleansed and activated without drugs. Just watching the videos and listening to the background sounds is so relaxing and meditative.

Working on the pineal gland is supplementary to my use of the Ho’oponopono videos to heal my thoughts and hasten my recovery so that I can rid myself of my cane.

Educator continues intellectual pursuits into retirement days

Pearl Hudtohan Business Mirror

AFTER over 40 years in the academe mentoring students and holding key posts in several schools, Dr. Ma. Perla Hudtohan, PhD, enjoys her retirement days travelling abroad with her husband, reading books, doing crossword puzzles, and updating her web site with her own articles touching on family, health, well-being and other subjects.

At 71, she is still enthused by the same passion that prompted her to become an educator over four decades ago. After retiring in 2009 and a mild stroke in 2012, she began offering life coaching and tutorials in English writing, English speaking to foreign and non-foreign students, and professional writing.

Born in Iloilo during the war, Hudtohan was studied at Assumption College from grade school to college.

“That’s why I have an overindigestion of nuns and priests,” she said.

Hudtohan finished grade school in 1954, and high school in 1959, at Assumption Convent-Iloilo as valedictorian for both levels. She graduated summa cum laude from Assumption College-Iloilo in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in Education, major in English.

Driven by passion to help in nation-building through education, Hudtohan, at an early age, held the candle for the young to facilitate them achieve enlightenment. This undertaking had contributed to her own development both as a person and as an educator.

“I started tutoring while I was still studying,” she said. “At the time, if you earned P20, you could buy a lot of things. You could buy a good pair of shoes.”

Hudtohan formally began teaching at age 19. She later obtained a Masters degree in Basic Management Program at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati in 1974, and a Master’s of Arts in Public Administration at University of the Philippines Iloilo in 1978.

She took up her doctorate in Education, major in Educational Management at the Philippine Women’s University in Manila, and finished it in 1991.

She complained, however, of the Philippine educational system favoring men to continue their mentoring passion up to the age of 70.

“It’s so unfair they allow men to teach until 70,” Hudtohan said. “But they want to retire women aged 60 to 65.”

Used to teaching “a lot of students” in the past years she facilitated her husband, Dr. Emiliano Hudtohan, turning 70 this October, who teaches students of Business Ethics and Family Work-Life Harmony at De La Salle University in Manila, College of Business.

“I could handle more than 50 students,” she said. “Sometimes I had 64 students.”

Hudtohan taught grade- and high-school students at Assumption Convent, her alma mater, right after graduating from college in 1963. She became the high-school principal of that school from 1975 to 1977.

Her teaching took a breather for five years after marriage to take care of their only child, Julie Anne, who is now a director at Unilever in London.

She was already 36 when Julie Anne was born. She used to have awful migraines, which disappeared after giving birth.

In 2001, she resumed teaching at Assumption College, in San Lorenzo, Makati, where she chaired the English Department and the Mass Communications Department. She also became the school’s college registrar.

Two years later, she taught English and Literature to Nursing and Hotel Restaurant Management students at San Juan de Dios Educational Foundation Inc. in Pasay City until 2009 when she stopped teaching.

Outside the academe, Hudtohan served as assistant to the CEO of Nina International Export and Trading Co. in Makati in the late 1970s. She was also assistant manager at Fun Fare Co. in Iloilo City.

She coedited the Asin at Liwanag newsletter of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Malate.

Her tours abroad included Wimbledon, Singapore, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Sydney, Rome, Paris and the Holy Land.

“Would you believe I have never been to America?” she said. “But I am very Western. All my books are Western. I like to order from Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.”

But she likes Australia mostly for its cuisine.

The microscopic traces of Ilonggo accent in her speech make her an interesting and jolly speaker in English.

“My routine is three crossword puzzles a day,” she said. “My main activity now is feeding my web site.”

Hudtohan loves reading. She prefers hard-copy books, which have spaces for her comments, over e-books.

She has her own Facebook account, but discourages her husband from having one because “for sure, he will join the complaints against the government and the church.”

She described Dr. Emiliano, whom her mother loved so much, “a very good cook.” She recalled her mother reminding her “Please do not do too much to your husband.”

“When he courted me, I liked him because he seemed he could solve any problem,” she said. “My husband thinks of the world, and I, believe in the power of the individual. He is very kind. He gets angry every two years or so.”

Hudtohan is brimming with ideas. When she puts her head on the pillow, ideas pop up, preventing her from falling asleep. She would turn the light on and start writing.

“When I write longhand first,” she said, “I continue with the computer.”

Hudtohan believes education should start at home. Their only child, who is still single, had learned to read from home when she was still young.

The child should also develop self-respect as early as possible, she said.

“Self-esteem should start right from childhood,” she said. “It’s very important. Young people become drug addicts because they do not have self-esteem.”

Hudtohan also believes that the child should be allowed to have a mind of his own. Early on the child should be trained to become independent.

Their daughter has been living alone since college. They did not allow her to watch TV until she knew how to read.

“Reading is important,” Hudtohan said. “It has to be the mother or the father to teach.”

She reminded her daughter that when the time comes for her to raise her own child, she should not teach about an “angry God” who is getting old.

Their daughter reminds them in return to eat their vegetables.

Hudtohan’s advocacy is to empower the individual, especially women. She uses her web site, now three years old and earned over 8,000 views, to push that goal.

Singapore, Once Again

My comprehensive philosophy as inspired by Neale Walsch is: given his spiritual level, and given the amount and quality of information available to him, everybody does his best at any given moment. Thus inspired by Ho’oponopono I ask forgiveness from myself for blaming the external world for my illnesses and problems. I ask forgiveness from myself for not expanding my consciousness enough and as such caused problems to manifest. Inspired by Shamanism I want to re-story the story of Zachary today on the feast of St. John the Baptist.

(June 24)

I want to re-frame the story of Zachary who was rendered mute because of his disbelief of the angel’s announcement of a son to be born in his wife’s old age and his own. I want to re-frame his story and apply it to my own life. I want to be healed of my disbeliefs that may have caused my mild stroke in 2012. More specifically I want to be able to walk normally again.

I want to re-frame my story, one of complete belief and trust in the wonders of the magnesium spray created by Mary Jean Netario Cruz. after less than a month, I have observed great improvement in my walking, enough to dream  I can soon walk normally again without the use of a cane.

Let my belief allow the magnesium to penetrate my cells and activate the nerves and muscles associated with normal walking. Let my belief allow the magnesium to open up my blood vessels to normalize my circulatory system. Let my belief allow the magnesium to unclog my body parts so that they can receive the nutrients they need to function properly.

I believe that by September i can walk without a cane. But I will be prudent and bring a cane to Singapore and avail of a wheelchair to negotiate the long walk from the airplane to the lobby where our daughter from London will be waiting expectantly.

Aging

I am not a medical doctor; I am a doctor for educational management. I do researches but I don’t think my researches can meet the standards of my venerable doctor friend who respects only researches done by Harvard. According to him, researches must be evidenced based.

My researches are personal, anecdotal reports based on my pathway to wellness. For me my researches are based on evidences! I validate my personal experiences against published findings about my health challenges.I understand that this type of sampling at best will be considered as mere anecdotal reports by medical practitioners more so by those who practise pharmacological medicine.

In the 90s I was still covered by an HMO, not anymore since 2003. Ironically, the elderly when they need an HMO the most can no longer be covered. Anyway, while I was still covered by n HMO, the attending physicians would shake their heads when I would be confined. They just could not pinpoint what was wrong with me. I would always be a marginal case in all blood and other medical tests. I know secretly they must have considered me a case of psychosomatic illness. However, one manifest evidence was my voice problem which forced me to resign from a leching job.

I was treated for hypertension because the readings proved it. When my hypertension normalized my voice problem persisted. I was sent to a psychiatrist. Now, I know it must have been a ploy to rid the HMO of  their perceived unnecessary expense. Of course, the fee of the psychiatrist was not reimbursable! Understandably I had to take steps to handle my health issues.

Magnesium

The Internet has given me new information. Lactic acid which used to be blamed for tiredness has been redeemed by more recent studies. Cortisol , the stress hormone is not as bad as described in my old books in the 90s. This leads me to think how important it is for health care providers to continuously update themselves. I can imagine how my voice problem even my clinical depression in the 90s could have been remedied had my doctors or even myself known about the wonders of Magnesium.

I am grateful for the magnesium spray of Jean Netario Cruz which has significantly improved my walking, enough for me to dream that soon I will be able to walk without my cane. She has done a lot of research about magnesium but I would like to add what I have learned.

According to the “Essential Guide to Vitamins and Minerals and Herbal Supplements” (2010) : Few enzymes can work without it [magnesium]  and magnesium is now known to help monitor healthy tissues, especially those in the muscles, lung airways, blood vessels and nerves. Lack of magnesium leads to cell death due to depletion of energy stores.

Magnesium could have prevented my frequent trips to the ER and hospital confinement in the 90s. The above 2010 book continues: One of the most important functions for magnesium is to maintain the integrity of ion pumps that control the flow of sodium, potassium, chloride and other salt components across cell membranes.
But an 80 year old doctor friend of ours would rather stick to pharmacologically driven medicine. He does not believe in Internet accessed researches. He would patronize only researches done by Harvard. I had to Google this because all the while I thought Harvard did not have a of college of medicine!

In fact he believes only in Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) When I complained against my present attending doctor he categorically told me to stick with this present physician. Our doctor friend wants my attending physician to take care of him  when he is finally hospitalized.
