Uncanny but my thoughts about general education curriculum have been inspired by terrorism and the terrorists as discussed by Robert Sardello.
Terrorism turns fear into a god – invisible, all powerful, a great and mighty punisher, the lord of death himself.
The terrorist is no longer afraid of death. His life means nothing to him, and thus neither does anyone else’s.
Terrorism kills the sense that we have a future, a life destiny… It views people as objects, and we become objects, even to ourselves.
The potential for each of us becoming our own terrorist can be found in the loss of faith in life.
An antidote to terrorism according to Sardello is artistic living which consists of developing the
the ability to display through our actions and attitudes, the power of soul and spirit.
Furthermore, Goodness consists of the capacity to go beyond ourselves, beyond our self – interests, and into the lives of others.
Personally, I pray I can see this coming into reality in my lifetime.
